Renowned university to establish new campus in Hangzhou

The construction on the Shuangpu branch of the Hangzhou Institute of Advanced Study of University of Chinese Academy of Sciences commenced on Feb 19.
The school is conveniently located in Xihu district and adjacent to the Shuangpu Station of Metro Line 6.
The school, which has a total investment of 5.3 billion yuan ($736 million) and covers an area of 27 hectares and a total construction area of 555,000 square meters, is scheduled for completion in 2027.
The campus will accommodate 3,000 full-time graduate students and 1,500 joint training graduate students. Additionally, the institute plans to recruit 650 full-time researchers, 1,000 postdoctoral fellows, and over 300 other faculty and staff members.
The project will focus on building key laboratories, science and technology innovation centers, and gravitational wave-related experimental facilities. It plans to reserve 80,000 sq m for a R&D center, further promoting scientific research and technology application to aid in local economic development.
Established in Hangzhou in 2019, the Hangzhou Institute of Advanced Study is the largest secondary college of the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences outside of Beijing. Its distinctive feature lies in the integration of education and scientific research.
The institute has introduced eight colleges, including physics, optoelectronics, life sciences, and pharmacology. It has closely aligned with the industrial development needs of Hangzhou, incubating over 40 enterprises.
