At the 7th China International Import Expo (CIIE) in Shanghai, Zhejiang's cultural showcase brought ancient crafts to life, including a highlight on Lanqiao Fengyue, Hangzhou's Song Dynasty (960-1279) wine.
The unique fragrance and elegant design of this thousand-year-old wine attracted much attention in the "Vibrant Zhejiang" exhibit, which featured 63 traditional industries and historical Zhejiang artifacts like silk, tea, and huangjiu (yellow wine).
Originally a celebrated drink in the Southern Song Dynasty (1127-1279), this wine was known for its rich aromas and historical significance. The wine recently underwent a revival led by master brewer Jiang Liang, who has spent nearly 40 years restoring its ancient brewing technique. His meticulous process follows traditional methods, combining herbal and red yeast fermentations to capture the wine's iconic "six aromas", a hallmark of Song Dynasty brewing.
Thanks to Jiang's efforts, Hangzhou's Song Dynasty wine has made a historic comeback, blending ancient craftsmanship with modern production techniques to honor the city's rich brewing heritage.
