The finals of the 13th China Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition for Disruptive Innovation kicked off in Hangzhou's Yuhang district on Nov 26, showcasing groundbreaking technologies that redefine industries.

Disruptive technologies are innovations that challenge traditional paradigms and revolutionize industries. They create new development models and, at critical stages, surpass and replace existing technologies, fundamentally altering market trajectories.

The "never-melting ice" developed by Professor Zhang Kai's team from the Beijing Institute of Technology for the cold chain captivated the audience, as this gel-based ice remains solid even in high temperatures. Comprised of over 90 percent water and fortified by a polymer network, the material locks water molecules in place, preventing melting.

Another standout innovation was the "5G+MDFC Passive IoT Technology" from Zhejiang Longan Technology, featuring sensors powered by radio frequency energy instead of batteries. These sensors enable long-range data transmission and can be used in challenging environments such as high-pressure pipelines and underground systems.

At the event, the Yangtze River Delta Torch Center for Disruptive Technology Transfer and Incubation was launched to provide end-to-end services for tech startups. The event also included policy announcements, partnership signings, and project matchmaking sessions to accelerate innovation.

Hangzhou has been actively fostering disruptive technologies, aiming to become a leading hub for technology transfer. It ranks 14th globally in the "Top 100 Science and Technology Clusters" and leads Zhejiang province in innovation indices.
