In Xihu district of Hangzhou – capital of East China's Zhejiang province – elderly residents are experiencing a new level of AI-driven care.

Xiaoxi, China's first AI-empowered humanoid elderly care robot, has been introduced at the Xihu district social welfare center – quickly becoming a favorite among the center's seniors.

At 1.2 meters tall, Xiaoxi delivers medicine, monitors vital signs and engages in conversations, making elderly care more convenient and personalized.

The robot can autonomously navigate the center, avoid obstacles and provide real-time health updates. For instance, it alerts seniors to take their medications and measures vital signs like blood pressure, pulse and oxygen levels – offering instant feedback.

Beyond medical support, Xiaoxi also serves as a companion – it tells jokes, shares health tips and even gives dietary recommendations tailored to seniors' needs.

Equipped with four key functions – health monitoring, emotional companionship, chronic disease management and safety surveillance – it plays the role of a doctor, family member and friend.

The Xihu district civil affairs bureau plans to further expand Xiaoxi's capabilities, including remote video consultations with doctors. The district is also integrating more smart eldercare solutions, such as robotic pets, exoskeletons and AI-powered meal services, to create a more age-friendly environment.

With China's silver economy gaining national attention, Xihu district is said to be leading the way in AI-powered senior care, setting a new benchmark for smart, high-quality services for the aged.
