Hangzhou Port in Hangzhou, East China's Zhejiang province, achieved remarkable growth in the first quarter of 2025, with its total cargo throughput reaching 17.76 million metric tons, a significant 24-percent year-on-year increase, according to the Hangzhou Highway and Port Shipping Management Service Center.
The center reported that container throughput surged to 86,000 TEUs in the Hangzhou Port, a substantial growth of 63.9 percent compared to the same period last year.
These achievements surpassed the quarterly targets, setting a solid foundation for the year ahead.
Leading the cargo throughput were mineral and construction materials, which saw a staggering 103.5-percent year-on-year increase in the first quarter, reaching 15.67 million tons. Categories such as cement, slag, and coal experienced significant growth rates of 106.5 percent, 23.7 percent, and 158.4 percent, respectively.
The Yuhang section maintained its top position with a throughput of 6.29 million tons, despite a slight 4.8-percent year-on-year decrease. Fuyang saw a throughout 3.21 million tons, a growth rate of 44.4 percent. Qiantang Port emerged as a standout performer, with a throughput of 2.68 million tons, soaring by an impressive 1,663.4 percent year-on-year, largely driven by the robust performance of Xiasha Port. This has made the port a core growth engine.
Dongzhou Port and Xiasha Port jointly established a dual hub for container transportation, with the latter seeing an explosive growth of 134.8 percent, or 4,300 TEUs.
