April 22 marked the 55th Earth Day, which called for an accelerated transition to renewable energy to combat the climate crisis. Hangzhou West Railway Station, a transportation hub in Hangzhou, capital of East China's Zhejiang province, has exceeded expectations in its low-carbon emission efforts.

The station's rooftop solar project, featuring 7,540 photovoltaic panels, has generated 5.91 million kilowatt hours of electricity, equivalent to reducing coal consumption by 2,308 metric tons and carbon emissions by 5,900 tons.

In 2024 alone, electricity generation reached around 2.9 million kWh, cutting emissions by approximately 965 tons, equivalent to planting 127,000 trees, making it a benchmark for green transformation in the transportation sector.

Employing technological innovation, the project supports a "self-use with surplus fed to the grid" model, powering station operations like lighting, air conditioning, and elevators while significantly reducing costs.

A smart management system ensures efficient energy usage and centralized monitoring, while the station's architectural design further cuts energy consumption.

The green technologies at Hangzhou West Railway Station not only reduce carbon emissions but also provide multiple other benefits, reducing standard coal consumption by 800 tons of annually, reducing operation costs, and generating revenue via surplus electricity generation.

With its innovative combination of green technology and energy-saving design, Hangzhou West Railway Station exemplifies the integration of transportation infrastructure with sustainability, setting a new standard for eco-friendly urban development.
