Hangzhou-based 4D Bios Co signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Saudi Arabian firm Mowreq at the China (Beijing)–Saudi Arabia Forum on Agricultural Industry and Sustainable Development on May 13.
Together, they plan to develop AI-driven plant factories across Saudi Arabia and the Middle East.
Saudi Arabia faces major challenges in traditional agriculture, including water scarcity and desertification. 4D Bios, rooted in Binjiang district, Hangzhou, brings mature technologies in vertical farming, AI environmental control, internet of things systems, LED plant lighting, and automated nutrient delivery to help address these issues.

At its Binjiang headquarters, 4D Bios has built a model plant factory where vegetables, fruits, and flowers grow on stacked shelves — without sunlight or soil. LED lights simulate natural light, while integrated systems deliver nutrients directly to roots.
"AI algorithms precisely control temperature, humidity, and light," explained a staff member. "Compared to open-field cultivation, water use can be cut by 95 percent per unit yield. And with year-round production, crops like strawberries can be harvested 12 months a year."
The two partners will also cooperate on talent training and tech innovation to cultivate skilled professionals and support Saudi Arabia's drive toward a modern, high-tech agricultural sector.
