In the midst of a new wave of competition in the national bio-pharmaceutical industry, the Hangzhou Biopharma Town in Qiantang district has emerged as a powerful force for innovation.

Following the birth of the first innovative pharmaceutical in December last year, the town is now bursting with creativity, with 90 innovative medicines in clinical trials, paving the way for a consistent stream of new medicines to be made in Qiantang annually.

Established in 2017, Hangzhou Biopharma Town has since grown into a hub for nearly 1,800 biopharmaceutical enterprises. It has leveraged its full spectrum of services to accelerate the aggregation of technology, talent, and capital.

Zang Jingwu, founder of TJ Biopharma, a fully integrated biotech company based in the town, said that the bio-pharmaceutical industry in Qiantang has formed a strong ecosystem, yet there are still many areas that have not yet been fully realized. "For instance, we hope to collaborate with AI companies in Hangzhou to utilize AI technology for greater innovation."

Moving forward, the town will focus on innovative bio-pharmaceuticals such as protein and peptide drugs, innovative chemical drugs like small molecule targeted therapies, and high-end medical devices. It will establish a foothold in cutting-edge fields such as synthetic biology, nucleic acid drugs, cell and gene therapy, and AI pharmaceuticals to establish a full industrial chain in the bio-pharmaceutical sector.
