The 21st China International Cartoon & Animation Festival (CICAF) opened today in Hangzhou, bringing a five-day celebration of animation, games, and crossover creativity ahead of the upcoming Dragon Boat Festival holiday.
Major IPs like Naruto, Detective Conan, Jujutsu Kaisen, and Arknights are featured alongside interactive booths from Fujiya, Hello Kitty, and even local police and fire departments. Fans can also enjoy performances, exhibitions, and immersive experiences showcasing both Chinese and international animation.
Highlights include super IP showcases from CCTV Animation, including a 30th-anniversary event for Big Head Son and Small Head Dad; e-sports tournaments like Dream Three Kingdoms 2; interactive zones from Youku and Zoland Cartoon with AR poetry games, holograms, and live shows; the HTS International Toy Exhibition, with over 1,000 square meters of trendy toys and models from top brands and classic IPs; and the CIF Illustration Fair, featuring South Korean collaborations, over 130 illustrators, and themed exhibits.
CICAF also spotlights cross-dimensional connections, with public service booths by Hangzhou's police, emergency, and judicial departments turning legal and safety education into anime-inspired experiences. A new national defense zone features the "Hangzhou Defense Bunny", blending military education with pop culture.
Two major competitions add to the excitement: The Voice Actor Contest (May 29–30), where AI-generated scripts challenge contestants live; and the Cosplay Super Gala (May 31–June 2), featuring performances, catwalks, and a silver-age cosplay segment with senior participants.
CICAF continues to evolve as one of China's most influential animation festivals, merging art, technology, and culture across generations.
