China-Russia cooperation in the animation industry reached a new milestone on May 28 with the launch of the China-Russia Animation Exchange Day during the 21st China International Cartoon & Animation Festival in Hangzhou.
Co-hosted by the Russian Animated Film Association (RAFA), Soyuzmultfilm (SMF), the China Animation Association, and the festival's executive committee, the event brought together leading figures and companies from both countries to explore collaboration opportunities in animation production and digital innovation.
Representatives from both sides emphasized the importance of resource-sharing and joint creation under the backdrop of increasing global cultural exchange. The event also featured a special presentation from a delegation of Moscow-based animation companies, showcasing Russian animated films such as KikoRiki Wonders and Major Grom and highlighting Russia's creative strengths and artistic diversity.
Companies like Main Road Post and STS Media pitched their projects in a roadshow format, seeking co-production and distribution partnerships with Chinese counterparts.
The event not only offered a visual feast for fans but also laid the groundwork for deeper industry collaboration — paving the way for future co-productions and technological exchange between the two nations.
