The Hangzhou High-Tech Zone (Binjiang) recently hosted a government-university-industry exchange event, spotlighting its AI talent strategy with a futuristic twist. A humanoid robot from Unitree Robotics, dubbed Xiao Bin, served as the district's "ambassador", showcasing how Binjiang is becoming a magnet for young innovators.

The event drew talent officers from 50 top universities — including Tsinghua, Peking, and Zhejiang — and representatives of nearly 100 companies. Discussions focused on deepening cooperation to train and attract AI talent, aligning with Hangzhou's goal of becoming a national hub for AI innovation.

Enterprises expressed strong demand for interdisciplinary talent in AI, industrial control, and algorithm engineering. For example, Hangzhou Augmented Intelligence Manufacturing Solutions Co seeks hybrid-skilled engineers, while Uniview Technologies welcomes young postdocs to boost fields like AI, big data, and cloud computing.

According to the Binjiang human resources bureau, 36 percent of this year's hiring demand targets university graduates, with over 77 percent of openings in IT, manufacturing, and scientific research sectors — especially in R&D and marketing roles related to frontier technologies.

To strengthen academic alignment, Binjiang awarded 10 universities — including Southeast University and Wuhan University — the title of Pioneer Institutions in Digital Talent Development. Universities like Wuhan are also ramping up AI-related disciplines, with plans to launch new robotics programs.

The event offered universities valuable insight into industry needs, helping reshape curricula and guide students toward future-focused careers.
