Following a vibrant wheat harvest, rice planting season has begun in Hangzhou's famed Wheat Field CBD.
Officially known as Century Farmland, the area lies beside the Asian Games Village in Qianjiang Century CBD, Xiaoshan district. Encompassing around 4,567 mu (304 hectares), the farmland is uniquely framed by high-speed railways, skyscrapers, and shimmering cityscapes.
The site adopts a wheat-rice rotation system. After harvesting wheat and rapeseed in late May and early June, rice and sorghum are now being planted, with 3,450 mu of rice and 200 mu of sorghum expected to be sown by late June.
Drone footage this week captured glistening paddies, busy rice planters, flocks of egrets, and high-speed trains streaking past futuristic skyscrapers — creating a striking blend of nature and urban life.
According to Qianjiang Century City authorities, the golden rice fields are expected to return by early October, offering stunning views of ripening grain alongside bullet trains and high-rises. By late October and early November, harvesters will return, bringing back the spectacular scenes of egrets soaring over golden fields at sunset.
