The Samaranch Football Time (Hangzhou) program kicked off at Hangzhou Normal University on June 26, featuring four days of intensive training led by Adrian Marquez and Joan Pijuan, A-level Spanish coaches from the Union of European Football Associations.
The coaches are delivering both theory and hands-on sessions to youth coaches from Hangzhou Football Association, local training clubs, and university students. Topics range from annual training plans to tactical execution, aiming to enhance grassroots coaching skills and support Hangzhou's ambition to become a key soccer city in China.
Joan, with six years of experience training young athletes in China, emphasized patience and long-term commitment in player development, while Adrian highlighted the need for a scientific, structured approach to youth and coach training, drawing on Spain's proven systems.
The event is part of Hangzhou's broader push for international soccer collaboration. According to city sports official Wu Luqi, it reflects the legacy of Juan Antonio Samaranch and marks a meaningful step toward aligning Hangzhou soccer with global standards.
