Zhejiang province's first archaeology museum, the Yujia Mountain Archaeology Museum — located in Linping district of Hangzhou, the capital city of region — has quickly become a hotspot for young visitors this summer, local media outlets reported.

Since its opening on May 18, the museum has welcomed over 3,000 visitors daily, with nearly 70 percent of them in their 20s or 30s.

Focusing on the Linping, Maoshan and Yujia Mountain sites, the museum features more than 1,800 relics, including jade, pottery and stone artifacts.

Most notably, the Yujia Mountain site spans the entire timeline of the over-1,000-year rise and fall of the renowned Liangzhu civilization — one of the earliest urban civilizations in China — making it a testament to 5,000 years of the country's history.

Advanced tech — such as augmented reality and immersive 3D films — is bringing ancient heritage to life, allowing visitors to build ancient houses or witness prehistoric farming scenes.

Part of Zhejiang's ongoing cultural preservation initiative, the museum not only showcases artifacts, but also highlights the archaeological process.

Plans are underway to introduce hands-on excavation and restoration experiences — further connecting archaeology with the public and especially engaging younger generations.
