The Zhejiang Memorial Hall for the Victory of the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the Surrender of the Japanese Army is in Songdian village — in Fuyang district of Hangzhou, capital of East China's Zhejiang province.
It stands as the only large-scale memorial in the province dedicated to honoring the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression (1931-45).
On Sept 4, 1945, in Songdian village, Chinese commanders Han Deqin and Shangguan Yunxiang accepted the surrender of the Japanese 133rd Division. The ceremony, held in the former residence of Song Zuomei, saw Japanese representatives bow, hand over rosters, weapon lists and formally sign the surrender.
That hall later became known as the Shouxiang Hall (or Hall of Surrender) and was expanded into today's memorial. Silent yet powerful, it marks the moment when invaders lowered their heads and Zhejiang's eight-year struggle was sealed in victory.
