In Fuyang district of Hangzhou — capital of East China's Zhejiang province — the metro's Shouxiang Station carries a name that is steeped in history.

Once the site of fierce resistance against Japanese occupation, shouxiang — meaning in Chinese accepting surrender — commemorates the moment when invading Japanese forces in Zhejiang province agreed to their unconditional surrender to Chinese troops in 1945.

The station, opened in late 2020 on Metro Line 6, sits near Shouxiang village, the only place in China named after this event. Once the scene of brutal battles and atrocities, it now stands as a solemn reminder to remember history and cherish peace.
