Zhejiang beat Tianjin Jinmen Tiger 2-0 at home in Hangzhou, East China's Zhejiang province, on Wednesday, securing their first win in three matches in the Chinese Super League (CSL).
The visitors had a chance to open the scoring first in the 15th minute, after Wang Qiuming's shot hit the leg of teammate Juan Antonio Ros, before bouncing toward the net. But the ball caromed off the post instead.
Zhejiang then missed a good opportunity in the 33rd minute. Wang Yudong intercepted a sloppy pass from goalkeeper Yan Bingliang inside the box and set up Yago Cariello Ribeiro in front of a wide open net. But Ros sprinted to the line just in time to deflect the attempt.
The hosts took a 1-0 lead before halftime following a corner kick, as Alexandru Mitrita found Cariello for a header, with the official checking VAR (Video Assistant Referee) before confirming the goal.
Zhejiang created more chances than Tianjin in the second half but didn't convert any until the fifth minute of stoppage time. Deabeas Owusu-Sekyere set up for Franko Andrijasevic for the home side's second goal to seal the victory. Zhejiang leapfrogged Tianjin for sixth place in the CSL standings after the hard-fought win.
