The second Silkroad's Global Musician Workshop kicked off on Aug 26 at Zhejiang Conservatory of Music in Hangzhou — capital of East China's Zhejiang province.
The event brought together renowned musicians and artists from across the world, aiming to foster cross-cultural dialogues and nurture a new generation of globally minded musical talent.
The seven-day program is being led by famous mentors, including three-time Grammy award-winning guitarist and singer-songwriter Ricardo Vogt from Brazil. Then there's Wu Man from China, the world's premier virtuoso of the pipa — the traditional short-necked Chinese lute —and Mike Block, a pioneering cello player, singer, composer and educator from the United States.
Twenty-six participants from China, the US, Germany, Singapore and Ecuador are taking part in various music sharing and training sessions.
They're even joining band practices led by different mentors, where they'll play Chinese instruments such as the pipa and the guqin — a seven-stringed plucked instrument — and the konghou, or Chinese harp.
That's with foreign instrumental counterparts like the piano and the tabla — a pair of hand drums from the Indian subcontinent) — with everyone getting totally immersed in the cross-cultural musical exchanges.
