After 16 months of renovation, the former residence of Hangzhou-born revolutionary writer Yu Dafu, known as Wind and Rain Thatched Cottage, reopened to the public on Aug 28 in tShangcheng district of the capital of East China's Zhejiang province.
It coincided with the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression (1931-45).
Originally designed and built by Yu 90 years ago, the Jiangnan-style courtyard has been restored under the principle of repairing the old as before, reviving its elegant three-sided corridor and traditional features.
The renewed site highlights Yu's literary achievements and patriotic journey through four themed sections — A Legendary Life, A Creative Mind, A Patriotic Heart and A Bond with Hangzhou.
Exhibits include manuscripts, photos and books, illustrating his role in using literature as a weapon of resistance.
The residence is open Tuesday to Saturday at No 63 Changguan Lane, Daxue Road, Shangcheng district, with no reservations required.
