China Post released a new set of stamps commemorating the 80th anniversary in the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression (1931-45) and the World Anti-Fascist War (1939-45), which went on sale on Sept 3 in Hangzhou — capital of East China's Zhejiang province — drawing crowds of collectors and interested people.
Japan officially surrendered on Sept 2, 1945, by signing the Instrument of Surrender and China designated Sept 3 as Victory Day.
The set includes 13 stamps and one miniature sheet, with a total face value of 20.80 yuan ($2.90). A total of 6 million sets and 5 million miniature sheets will be issued nationwide.
The designs follow the timeline of the war, featuring major battles, sculptures, historical photos and memorials — from the Sept 18 Incident and the July 7 Incident to the Battle of Taierzhuang, the Nanjing Massacre, the Flying Tigers and finally the victory celebrations in 1945.
The miniature sheet highlights the theme "Cherish Peace, Create the Future".
The stamps, solemn and powerful in design, aim to honor history, pay tribute to martyrs and promote the enduring spirit of resistance. They are available for six months through designated postal outlets, the China Post online mall and from mobile platforms.
