This autumn, the soft jingle of seed rattles has become the sound of the season in Hangzhou.
Inspired by nature, these handcrafted ornaments — made from dried seed pods — have taken social media by storm and turned the Hangzhou Botanical Garden's souvenir shop into a must-visit destination.
Since the shop's opening in late July, the seed rattle display has drawn the most visitors, according to shop manager Zhong Kenan. Each rattle is handmade from natural materials, featuring unique tones depending on the seeds used — some crisp like flowing water, others deep and mellow.
"Every rattle is one of a kind," Zhong said. "They're not just decorative; their calming sounds make them perfect for meditation and relaxation."

With demand soaring, the team plans to launch DIY workshops and themed events during the upcoming chrysanthemum exhibition. Online, the trend is just as strong — some e-commerce shops report monthly sales exceeding 10,000 units, with popular models selling out in advance.
Made primarily from natural fruits and pods sourced from Southwest China's Yunnan province, the seed rattles blend craftsmanship, sustainability, and serenity — bringing the gentle rhythm of autumn's nature into the hands of urban dwellers.
