A highway service area in Hangzhou has gone viral during the Spring Festival travel rush, with many visitors saying it "looks like an airport terminal".
The Tonglu Service Area on the G25 Changchun-Shenzhen Expressway, home to the country's largest highway ultra-fast charging hub, has quickly become a new must-visit stop for travelers.
The north zone smart supercharging station, which began operating at the start of the travel season, features more than 500 indoor parking spaces, including 108 dedicated charging bays. It is equipped with 38 liquid-cooled ultra-fast chargers delivering up to 640 kilowatts, with compatible vehicles able to reach an 80 percent charge in about 15 minutes, offering a seamless arrive-and-charge experience. Real-time digital guidance, separate lanes for charging vehicles, and LED status displays help keep traffic flowing smoothly.

The 30,000-square-meter complex also offers airport-style amenities. The spacious hall hosts regional dining brands, rest areas and cultural performances during the holiday rush, serving as a lively and convenient stop for travelers. The service area is open 24 hours a day, with family facilities and round-the-clock hot water on offer to enhance the experience.
The south zone, upgraded from an older facility and launched in 2025, adds another 108 charging spaces and features solar canopies, rooftop photovoltaic panels and an energy-storage system. Together, the two zones form an integrated solar-storage-charging network with nearly 3,100 kW of installed solar capacity, cutting carbon emissions by about 3,000 tons annually.
As Spring Festival travel continues through mid-March, Zhejiang expects nearly 596 million passenger trips. With expanding green-energy infrastructure, new-energy vehicle owners are traveling with greater ease than ever — charging up, grabbing coffee and continuing their journey home with confidence.
