The first exhibition of the nationwide "Exhibition of Ye Qianyu's Works in Qianyu Style" Ye Qianyu Art Tour opened on Feb 9 at the Zhejiang Exhibition Hall.
This marked the exciting launch of a cultural journey honoring the renowned master Ye Qianyu (1907–95) who was born in Hangzhou's Tonglu county.
A pioneer of modern figure painting in China and a founding figure of Chinese cartooning and life sketching, Ye built an artistic legacy rooted in real life and the people.
The opening also marked the start of events commemorating the 120th anniversary of his birth, drawing congratulations from leading art organizations at home and abroad.
The exhibition presents a comprehensive review of Ye's life and works through four sections — cartoons, sketches, new artistic explorations, and hometown connections — featuring iconic works such as wartime cartoons created during the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression (1931–45).
Sketches from his travels across China and abroad reveal his mastery of expressive lines and dynamic movement, while AI-assisted displays bring figures in his paintings to life.
Highlights also include New Dwelling in the Fuchun Mountains, reflecting Ye's deep attachment to his hometown. The touring exhibition will continue across several Chinese cities, sharing Zhejiang's cultural spirit and Ye's enduring artistic vision with wider audiences.
The event will run through Feb 24.
