A Moroccan student who rescued a drowning man in Hangzhou has been named a "Study in Zhejiang Ambassador of Kindness", highlighting the role of international students in promoting goodwill.
At the 19th International Student Talent Show held at Hangzhou Dianzi University on April 24, more than 300 overseas students from over 20 universities staged performances celebrating Chinese culture and cross-cultural exchange.
Among those honored was Ayoub Fadil, who earlier this month jumped into Jinsha Lake to save a person in distress before quietly leaving the scene. His identity only became known after a citywide search by local media.
Fadil has since received multiple accolades, including recognition for bravery and being named the first foreign recipient of the city's "Hangzhou Good Samaritan" title. Two other international students were also awarded for acts of kindness.
Organizers said the recognition reflects Zhejiang's efforts to foster a supportive and inclusive environment for global students. Fadil said the honors have motivated him to continue his studies and consider staying in China long-term.
