The NMIT Intelligent Engineering College of Zhejiang University of Water Resources and Electric Power, a new China-New Zealand joint education institute, was launched in Hangzhou on May 28, offering students the opportunity to earn dual degrees without leaving China.

The newly established college, jointly founded by Zhejiang University of Water Resources and Electric Power and Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology, was approved by China's Ministry of Education in 2025 and will welcome its first students this September.

The college will initially offer undergraduate programs in internet of things engineering, digital media technology, and civil engineering, focusing on smart technologies and future urban development.

Under the "4+0" model, students can complete all four years of study in Hangzhou while accessing international curricula and English-language instruction delivered by both Chinese and New Zealand faculty. Graduates who meet academic requirements will receive bachelor's degrees from both institutions.

College representatives said the partnership combines New Zealand's strengths in intelligent technology and digital creativity with Zhejiang's expertise in water resources, construction, and engineering, aiming to cultivate internationally minded talent for the digital economy and smart construction sectors.

To support students in the fully English-taught programs, the college will provide enhanced academic English courses, speaking workshops, and joint thesis supervision by Chinese and New Zealand mentors.

The two institutions have been cooperating since 2006 and have jointly trained more than 1,500 students, with previous partnership programs recognized twice as exemplary international education projects in Zhejiang province.
