Hangzhou's West Lake came alive on Aug 17 with a festive Qixi celebration featuring traditional music, performances, and interactive cultural activities.

The evening began with a theatrical performance inspired by the legendary Qixi meeting of the Cowherd and Weaver Girl. A traditional Chinese music medley then blended well-known melodies with elements of wuxia (martial arts) and romance, while solo performances and a comedy skit highlighted themes of enduring love, mutual understanding, and companionship.

Beyond the stage, the event featured the "West Lake Happy Market," where visitors could experience traditional handicrafts alongside intangible cultural heritage practitioners. Young participants also tried traditional games including cuju (ancient Chinese soccer), pitch-pot, and poetry challenges, adding a lively touch to the festival.

Families from Hangzhou and Ningbo also shared stories of marriage, family, and mutual support, reflecting the cultural ties strengthened by the Hangzhou-Ningbo development strategy.

Across Zhejiang, a lineup of Qixi activities is taking place at community cultural centers and other public spaces, promoting traditional values of love, family harmony, and the pursuit of a better life while bringing traditional Chinese culture closer to modern communities.
