Hangzhou in Zhejiang province outlined its archaeological site protection and utilization practices at a national meeting in Zhengzhou, Henan province, on Oct 13, highlighting coordinated management, legal safeguards, digital technology, research, and public engagement.

The city has established a municipal committee led by the Party secretary and mayor to coordinate heritage protection. It has also introduced dedicated regulations and a digital system covering more than 10,000 immovable cultural relics.

To address damage caused by Hangzhou's humid southern climate, the city established China's first laboratory dedicated to protecting earthen archaeological sites in humid environments.

The city also promotes archaeological research and international exchanges through the Liangzhu Forum, held for three consecutive years. Augmented and virtual reality technologies at Liangzhu National Archaeological Site Park recreate historical scenes.

Hangzhou is also turning preservation achievements into public cultural experiences. Initiatives include accessible exhibitions at Yujia Mountain Archaeological Museum, heritage displays at the Wuyue Kingdom's Yijin City site, and projects linking Liangzhu culture with rural development.

The city plans to further strengthen site protection, research, and public access by integrating heritage conservation with urban development.
