Covering 18 square kilometers, Shangcheng district administers six sub-districts and 54 communities, with a permanent resident population of 318,678.

Shangcheng achieved regional GDP of 117.14 billion yuan ($17.15 billion) in 2019, up 6.1 percent year-on-year. It also registered 10.68 billion yuan in export of goods and traded $680 million in services. The total volume of foreign capital in actual use was $449.4 million.
