Introduction:
Located in the south-east of Brazil near the Atlantic, Curitiba sits on a plateau at 3,000 feet above sea level. It is the capital and largest city of the Brazilian state of Paraná.
The city has well-equipped facilities, especially for public transportation, and it was listed by the United Nations as the city with the best public transportation system among developing countries.
The city reached a new level of development in the 1970s, and gradually acquired an integrated transportation and road network, as well as land application measures to improve and protect the quality of urban life. The outer edge of the city is parks and green lands. The idea of radial development along the main axis of the city was introduced in 1974.
