The Hangzhou Seawall Ruins Museum, which is located in Jianggan district, Hangzhou, opened on Jan 7. It is the first of its kind in China.

The museum was built based on the archaeological site of a section of an ancient seawall, which was unearthed during construction.

The seawall can be dated back to the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) and the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911). In order to preserve the archaeological site, the local government decided to build a museum around the heritage site.

The museum covers an area of 6,200 square meters, and has five separated halls with different themes, giving visitors a chance to learn about the ancient Qiantang River culture.
