Construction has wrapped up on the space development project under the ground of the Hangzhou Future Sci-Tech City, according to an announcement made by the management committee of the city on April 2.
It is still undecided when the large underground space will begin operations.
The project, which was approved in 2013, was then Hangzhou's largest underground road development project.
Officials at the Hangzhou Future Sci-Tech City said that the project was designed to deal with the large traffic flow the city may face in the future.
The underground roads connect neighboring buildings in the city, enabling drivers to drive to destinations directly through the underground channel, according to the officials.
A parking lot was also built, as more vehicles will be advised to use the underground roads after the project is completed.
The underground area covers an area of 2.5 square kilometers, and the roads cover a total length of nearly 4.5 kilometers.
