Introduction:

Maribor is the second-largest city in Slovenia and the largest city in the traditional region of Lower Styria. It is also the economic, administrative, educational, and cultural center of eastern Slovenia.

Maribor was considered a "castle" in 1164, a "settlement" in 1209, and a "city" by 1254.

It was named the European Capital of Culture for 2012, along with the Portuguese city of Guimarães.

It established sister-city relations with Hangzhou on Nov 20, 2017.
