5G to empower 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games

The Hangzhou government has said that it is planning to provide 5G coverage to 42 stadiums during the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games.

Hangzhou Telecom is currently working on the construction on 5G infrastructure in the city, with more than 92 percent of the city's urban area already receiving coverage.

Special attention has been given to key areas such as the West Lake Scenic Spot, the Qianjiang New City, the Hangzhou Future Sci-Tech City and the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Center.

A recent test showed that the 5G network download speed at the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Center was 2,361 MB per second, meaning that a 2GB movie can be downloaded within only a few seconds. The test also showed that the upload speed was 312 MB per second.

According to Hangzhou Telecom, they will continue to expand the 5G signal capacity at the stadiums for the Hangzhou Asian Games to minimize the risk of data traffic congestion.

Officials of the organizing committee for the Hangzhou Asian Games said that 5G technology will be used in areas such as intelligent parking, security checks and high-definition live streaming during the Games.

Audiences outside the venues for the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games will also be able to enjoy immersive live streams of the events because of virtual reality technology.
