The opening ceremony for the 2020 Zhejiang Hangzhou Xihu District Export Online Fair (Germany-Textile) was held in Xihu district, Hangzhou, capital of East China's Zhejiang province, on June 24.

Gao Guofei, Party secretary of Xihu district, attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech. Representatives from Germany also took part in the ceremony via online conferencing.

During the event, an online ceremony was held to sign intended orders.

Gao said in his speech that Xihu district has held four online trade summits by virtue of its strength in cloud computing and big data technologies. The four summits have been viewed by more than 2 million people.

Meanwhile, the district has also held a slew of livestreaming promotional shows to connect companies and buyers.

Gao noted that the European market has been the primary export market for Xihu district. As such, it is important that both sides strengthen mutual trade exchanges to aid with economic recovery.

"The textile and clothing industry is regarded as one of Xihu's most important industries for export," Gao said, adding that Chinese textiles and garments have long been favored by their German counterparts.

He vowed to provide more professional and efficient matchmaking services for both German and Chinese companies and facilitate the signing of more orders.

According to Gao, Xihu district will hold more online trade fairs to create more opportunities for companies to conduct trade and mitigate the impact of the pandemic.

The online trade fair, which is attended by 40 textile companies, will last for a week. Nearly 120 trade negotiations will take place during the fair.
