West Lake to witness romance between China, Italy
The 2020 Sino-Italian Culture Week of Romance kicked off on Aug 25 and will last until Sept 6 in the West Lake scenic area in Hangzhou.
The event is in celebration of the Qixi Festival, or the Chinese equivalent of Valentine's Day, which falls on Tuesday this year, and marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Italy.
Visitors will be able to enjoy light shows in the Qianjiang New Area and buy souvenirs at the fair in Taiziwan Park.
Two giant glowing butterflies, one red and one blue, will be lit up along West Lake, symbolizing China and Italy. The red one is located at Duanqiao Bridge, while the blue one is at Rome Square in Xueshi Park.

Visitors can help bring the two butterflies together before Chinese Valentine's Day by sharing their love stories and photos on TikTok and Weibo. They will also gain access to gift boxes and coupons by participating.
In March 2019, Hangzhou and Verona signed a friendship agreement to promote their respective sites inscribed on UNESCO's world heritage list and advance cooperation and communication in the culture and tourism sectors.
