A quiet village embraces resident designers
Jovana Zhang, founder and lead designer of the Rong Design Library, was born in Serbia and graduated from the Belgrade University of Applied Arts. Zhang's Rong Design Library, established in 2015 in Qingshan village, Huanghu town, Yuhang district, Hangzhou, is surrounded by green hills and waters. The library has been instrumental in attracting designers from around the world to this serene location for creative work.
Since its inception, Rong Design Library has initiated an annual designer-in-residence program, inviting international designers to Qingshan village to collaborate with traditional Chinese artisans and experiment with native materials. So far, over 50 designers from countries including Switzerland and the Czech Republic have participated, fostering an exchange of art and culture that blends global design with Chinese traditional craftsmanship.
