Hangzhou is striving to incorporate exhibitions into the everyday lives of its residents, local media outlets reported.

Recent events — from the Global Digital Trade Expo and the Liangzhu Forum to cultural fairs and anime festivals — have attracted international guests and local residents alike, blending business, culture, and leisure.

In 2024, Hangzhou hosted 178 exhibitions across professional venues and other sites, a 59 percent increase from 2023, averaging nearly one event every two days. These events not only drive sales and investment but also enrich city life, drawing tech enthusiasts, cultural aficionados, and families into the city’s public spaces.

The economic ripple effect is significant: exhibitions stimulate sectors including hospitality, transport, tourism, logistics, and trade. For example, this year's Global Digital Trade Expo saw 113 projects signed, totaling 165.08 billion yuan ($23.35 billion), with foreign investment exceeding $1.72 billion. Many entrepreneurs, inspired by these events, have relocated to Hangzhou to tap into its thriving digital economy.

Hangzhou's strategy combines strong local industries, robust infrastructure, and skilled talent. The city now has eight professional exhibition halls, nine conference hotel clusters, and ten specialized meeting towns, supported by education and training programs in exhibition management.

With AI-enhanced services and international partnerships, Hangzhou is turning "conference traffic" into urban growth, positioning itself as a global hub for exhibitions and innovation.
