A new intelligent tidal lane robot system has begun operation at the intersection of Xin'an East Road and Mingzhu Road in Qiandaohu town, offering an innovative solution to the persistent congestion around nearby schools.

Located in the town's urban core, the intersection serves several residential communities, businesses, and two major schools — Qiandao Lake Junior High School and Qiandao Lake No 6 Primary School. During morning and evening peak hours, especially school drop-off and pick-up times, heavy traffic from parents and commuters often converges, leading to long queues and safety concerns. Traditional traffic signals and on-site police management have struggled to cope with these short-term surges in demand.

To address this challenge, the Chun'an county public security bureau's traffic management brigade introduced a smart tidal lane system powered by advanced automation technology. The system consists of 18 movable lane-control robots arranged along a 99-meter stretch. Using a lateral diversion design, the robots can automatically reposition within just 40 seconds, dynamically adjusting lane directions based on real-time traffic conditions.

During peak periods, the system can temporarily convert a regular lane into a dedicated left-turn lane for school traffic, significantly improving traffic distribution and intersection efficiency.

Authorities advise drivers to pay close attention to the changing lane markings and traffic signals when passing through the area, ensuring orderly and safe travel.
