A seal-rubbing experience event was held at the West Lake Museum as part of a seal art exhibition, exploring how traditional Chinese seal art can serve as a bridge between cultures.
The exhibition draws inspiration from ancient graphic seals and incorporates cultural symbols from countries and regions along the Belt and Road, combining Chinese seal-carving traditions with diverse global artistic elements.
Graphic seal artist Ruan Jie, a member of the Xiling Seal Society, shared the project's five-year development journey. More than 2,000 artists have participated, creating seal designs inspired by wildlife, customs, historical figures and cultural symbols from around the world. He said the initiative aims to preserve the essence of Chinese seal art while making it accessible and meaningful to international audiences.
Visitors also experienced traditional full-form rubbing techniques, Song Dynasty-style tile rubbings and woodblock rubbings featuring the Ten Scenic Spots of West Lake. Artist Shen Gubo created a special seal artwork themed around bridges in tribute to International Museum Day.
