The West Lake Dialogue on China-US Relations opened in Hangzhou on May 25, bringing together leading scholars, think tank experts, and representatives from civil society organizations in China and the United States.

Hosted by the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, the event focuses on China-US relations, economic and technological cooperation, and people-to-people exchanges. It is the first major nongovernmental dialogue held since the recent meeting between the Chinese and US presidents in Beijing.

Addressing the opening ceremony, officials and representatives from both countries highlighted the importance of strengthening communication, building mutual trust, and expanding practical cooperation. Speakers noted that people-to-people exchanges have played a vital role in China-US relations since the landmark Ping-Pong Diplomacy more than five decades ago.

More than 50 participants from universities, think tanks, and exchange organizations attended the dialogue, including representatives from the Carter Center and the Asenno Family Foundation.

Participants will engage in in-depth discussions on bilateral ties and explore ways to promote stable, healthy, and sustainable China-US relations through strengthened subnational and people-to-people cooperation.
