Laughter filled the shores of Swan Lake at Hangzhou Safari Park on May 27 as beloved orangutan Maodou celebrated its fifth birthday with a special party.

Keepers decorated Maodou's activity area with birthday banners and prepared five gift boxes, enrichment toys filled with treats, and a colorful birthday cake made from fruits and vegetables. Visitors also received themed souvenirs, including fans, stickers and fridge magnets.

The birthday star quickly stole the show. After climbing its favorite jungle gym and enjoying a few snacks, Maodou eagerly tore into the presents, using its hands, feet and even teeth to open the packages within minutes. A water bottle proved to be its favorite gift, drawing laughter from the crowd as it immediately tried to drink from it.

After enjoying its birthday cake, Maodou switched into playful mode, pulling down decorations and playfully interacting with keepers, delighting visitors throughout the celebration.

Park staff said the birthday event was designed to enrich the animal's daily life and promote its well-being while giving visitors a chance to learn more about wildlife conservation and the importance of harmonious coexistence between humans and nature.
