A culinary journey from Spain's "Gastronomic Capital" has arrived in Hangzhou, as the sixth stop of the Hangzhou Sister Cities Food Festival — the Oviedo Food Tour — opened on May 22 at the InterContinental Hangzhou.

The event celebrates the long-standing friendship between Hangzhou and the Spanish city of Oviedo, which became sister cities in 2006. Known for its rich history, UNESCO-listed heritage sites, and vibrant food culture, Oviedo was named Spain's Gastronomic Capital in 2024.

Running for two months, the festival is curated by renowned Spanish chef Javier Gallardo, who is introducing authentic Asturian cuisine to local diners. Signature dishes include Fabada Asturiana, a traditional bean stew regarded as one of Oviedo's most iconic specialties.

Visitors can also enjoy a selection of Spanish tapas, including tomato and olive oil baguettes, tuna-topped open sandwiches, ham with melon, fried squid, marinated anchovies, and traditional desserts. Chinese dishes are also featured, creating a fusion of Eastern and Western flavors.

Marking nearly two decades of sister-city ties, the festival offers Hangzhou residents a taste of Oviedo's culinary heritage while strengthening cultural exchanges between the two cities through food.
