A group of students from leading US universities recently visited Hangzhou as part of a summer study program organized by Peking University, seeking a deeper understanding of Chinese culture, society and innovation.

The participants, from universities such as Cornell University, University of California, Berkeley, Montana State University and University of Rochester, arrived with a diverse range of motivations.

Some were drawn by a long-standing interest in Chinese culture and history, while others came to form friendships through student exchanges. Several participants said their curiosity was sparked by China's rapid technological development, including advances in robotics and artificial intelligence.

During their visit, students explored Hangzhou's cultural landmarks, innovation hubs and business ecosystem. Many said they were impressed by the city's ability to blend natural beauty, rich history and cutting-edge technology.

"I was amazed by how harmoniously nature, technology and modern industry coexist here," said Tiki Thomas from the University of Rochester, calling Hangzhou one of his favorite cities.

Business student Treston Torres of Cornell University said visiting leading Chinese private enterprises offered valuable insights into China's economic development and innovation.

For Aika Lanes from Montana State University, Hangzhou's cultural heritage left a lasting impression. Learning about the myths The Legend of the White Snake and Butterfly Lovers while visiting West Lake deepened her appreciation of the city's history and traditions.

The program aims to promote people-to-people exchanges and provide young Americans with firsthand experiences of contemporary China, helping build greater understanding between the two countries.
