An international delegation participating in the Human Rights Action in China 2026 Zhejiang tour visited Yanglingzi School in Hangzhou on June 8, gaining firsthand insight into China's efforts to support children with special educational needs.
The delegation, comprising more than 60 representatives from 13 countries and international organizations, as well as scholars and media professionals, explored the school's comprehensive approach to rehabilitation, education, and employment support for students with disabilities.
School principal Yu Linya introduced the school's personalized education model, which uses a digital platform called the "Yangling Brain" to monitor student development and tailor learning and rehabilitation plans. The school’s vocational programs include courses in handicrafts, baking, and data annotation, helping students progress from skill development to employment.
Visitors also toured the "Wisdom Tree" community service center, where employees with intellectual disabilities confidently prepared coffee and served customers, demonstrating successful social inclusion and independent living skills.
Among the guests was former Iraqi President Abdul Latif Rashid, who praised the school's dedication to helping students build confidence and integrate into society. He commended the school's 30-year commitment to special education and encouraged its mission to inspire future educators.
During the visit, Rashid was particularly impressed by a student artwork by Wu Bochen and asked to include it in his private collection in Iraq. The painting will be publicly displayed alongside thousands of works by artists from around the world, sharing the school’s story and the spirit of inclusion it represents.
