China's men's national basketball team defeated Australia 91-81 in an international warm-up game at the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Center in Xiaoshan district, Hangzhou, on June 21.
The victory ended a nearly 20-year winless streak against Australian opposition and provided a major boost ahead of the upcoming FIBA World Cup qualifiers in July.
After a tightly contested first half, China took a 44-42 lead into the break before pulling away in the second half through strong defense and balanced scoring. The hosts extended their advantage to nine points by the end of the third quarter and held off Australia's late comeback attempt to secure the win.
Wang Junjie led all scorers with 23 points, adding six rebounds, four assists, and two steals. Cui Yongxi contributed 12 points, while Hu Jinqiu recorded 11 points and six rebounds. Wang Haoran also reached double figures with 10 points and five rebounds.
Australia's U24 squad was led by Emmett Adair with 18 points and Reyne Smith with 14 points, five rebounds and four assists.
The result highlighted the growing strength of China's young generation at the sport, with several emerging players delivering standout performances as the team continues preparations for its next international competitions.
