As Typhoon Bavi swept through Hangzhou, residents, community workers and volunteers joined forces to protect lives and restore normalcy.

Frontline officials remained on duty through heavy rain, inspecting flood risks and responding to emergencies. In Tonglu county, a village official worked overnight to plug a breach in a temporary embankment, while colleagues reinforced it with sandbags and stones. In Lin'an district, despite being hospitalized, a newly appointed village Party secretary continued to follow the emergency response, while his family provided their car and home to help relocate residents.

Community volunteers also stepped up. In Xihu district, volunteers delivered meals and arranged medicine runs for elderly residents during the storm. Across Hangzhou, temporary shelters provided food, medical care and other essentials to relocated residents and workers.

In Binjiang district alone, 7,993 workers from 53 construction sites were relocated to safety. After the storm, many voluntarily cleaned the shelters before leaving.

Emergency work continued after the typhoon passed. Crews cleared fallen trees and debris from roads and drainage channels, while flood-control teams maintained round-the-clock patrols along vulnerable areas.

Through the storm, Hangzhou's coordinated response highlighted both the resilience of its communities and the warmth of neighbors helping neighbors.
