A video of thousands of workers leaving a temporary shelter in Hangzhou after Typhoon Bavi went viral, drawing praise for a simple gesture: they cleaned up before leaving.

On July 12, as the typhoon moved away from Zhejiang, workers from 53 construction sites began leaving the temporary shelter at Hangzhou International Expo Center. After packing their belongings, many voluntarily collected food containers, bottles and other rubbish, leaving the 10,000-square-meter venue almost spotless.

"We arrived to a clean place, so we should leave it clean," one worker said. Another added that the city had taken good care of them, so they did not want to create extra work for staff.

The venue had provided air conditioning, hot water, Wi-Fi, charging facilities, and medical services during the storm. Workers stayed overnight before returning to their sites once conditions improved.

The evacuation was orderly, with buses transporting workers back to their workplaces. Staff members said the workers' cooperation made the process smooth.

The scene quickly resonated online, with many describing the gesture as a distinctly Hangzhou detail — an example of mutual respect and consideration amid a citywide response to the typhoon.
