A prefab home ordered from China for under $30,000 is drawing attention among buyers in the United States, local media outlets reported.

A US couple's YouTube video about their 40-foot prefab home bought through Alibaba.com has surpassed 3 million views. The fully furnished unit includes a bedroom, kitchen and bathroom.

The trend is translating into real trade growth. Alibaba International data shows GMV for mobile homes on its platform rose more than 50 percent year-on-year in the first half of 2026, with major buyers from the US, Australia and Mexico. Chinese customs data puts the country's mobile-home exports at $2.32 billion in the first five months of the year.

The home's manufacturer, a prefab housing company led by entrepreneur Fu Cheng, can complete production in 25 to 30 days, with shipping taking another 45 to 50 days. Digital platforms are helping Chinese manufacturers connect directly with overseas buyers, while standardized production, transparent manufacturing processes and after-sales services are making Chinese prefab homes increasingly accessible to global consumers.

The trend highlights how Hangzhou-based digital trade platforms are reshaping China's manufacturing exports, bringing factories closer to customers worldwide.
