A South American tapir named Gangdan celebrated its second birthday with a refreshing outdoor party at Hangzhou Safari Park on July 19, complete with a custom-made "ice cake" packed with fruits and vegetables.

Keepers decorated the enclosure and prepared a cooling feast tailored to the tapir's diet, stacking ice with bananas, lettuce, apples, sweet potatoes, long beans, pumpkin, corn, carrots and tomatoes.

The biggest surprise came when Gangdan tried rambutan for the first time. To the delight of keepers, the tapir expertly cracked open the spiky fruit, spat out the peel and seed, and calmly enjoyed the flesh.

The birthday feast also gave the playful tapir a chance to cool off in the summer heat, while delighting visitors with its enthusiastic appetite and charming dining skills.
