Hangzhou in Zhejiang province has been selected as both a national tourism hub city and a key city for inbound tourism development under China's 15th Five-Year Plan for building a strong tourism sector, which was recently approved by the State Council.

Issued by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the plan places Hangzhou among 32 tourism hub cities that will strengthen transportation connectivity, visitor distribution and regional tourism networks. It also lists the city among 24 key destinations designated to improve services for international travelers.

The new designation highlights Hangzhou's dual role as both a gateway to the Yangtze River Delta region and a major destination for overseas visitors.

As part of the national strategy, the city is expected to further enhance international air links, multilingual services, payment convenience, transportation, accommodation and visitor information to create a smoother travel experience for inbound tourists.

Known for its blend of cultural heritage and technological innovation, Hangzhou offers visitors a wide range of attractions, from the UNESCO-listed West Lake and the Archaeological Ruins of Liangzhu City to the Grand Canal, the Wensan Digital Life Block and other emerging technology-themed destinations.

The national tourism plan runs through 2030 and aims to strengthen China's global tourism competitiveness while improving travel experiences for both domestic and international visitors.
